Today on this special 100th episode of #IHAQ, we welcomed Claudia Thompson, DEI Panel Chair for BNI Global. BNI is the world’s largest referral networking organization.

We’ve talked to Claudia about what makes a successful DEI initiative at a workplace, but today we asked her to explore why some DEI initiates fail.

The first step of a DEI initiative is relatively simple for most organizations. It’s easy to bring in people from diverse backgrounds to an organization. But successful DEI initiatives have to go beyond that. Organizations must set up employees for success by providing the right opportunities, training, and support.

Where DEI initiatives fail is when people feel isolated and dissatisfied because they weren’t set up for success in the first place. There has to be a holistic plan in place for DEI initiatives to succeed.
